Description
This medicine contains cetirizine, an anti-allergy. Cetirizine blocks the action of histamine, a substance that causes allergic symptoms. Cetirizine is less likely to cause drowsiness and dizziness than the older class of anti-allergy medicines.
Indication
- Symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis.
- Perennial allergic rhinitis.
- Chronic urticaria and pruritus.
Dosage
Children 2–5 years: 2 mL once daily or 1 mL twice daily
Children 12 months to <2 years: 1 mL once or twice daily
Infants 6 to <12 months: 1 mL once daily
Missed Dose: Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Then continue with the next dose as scheduled — either after 24 hours (for once daily dosing) or after 12 hours (for twice daily dosing).
Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.
Side Effects
- Somnolence (sleepiness)
- Dizziness, headache
- Pharyngitis (sore throat), rhinitis (runny, stuffy nose) (in children)
- Diarrhoea, nausea, dry mouth
- Fatigue
Precaution
Caution should be exercised when driving a car or operating a heavy machinery. Concurrent use of cetirizine with alcohol or other CNS depressants should be avoided because additional reduction in alertness and CNS performance may occur.
Interaction
No clinically significant drug interactions have been found with theophylline, azithromycin, pseudoephedrine, ketoconazole or erythromycin and with some other drugs.
Food Interaction
- Avoid alcohol.
- Take with or without food. The absorption is unaffected by food.
